WELCOME MESSAGE

We are pleased to announce the XIV Iberian Conference on Tribology (IBERTRIB 2027), which will be held in Gijón, Asturias, Spain, following previous IBERTRIB conferences in Gijón (2001), Valencia (2003), Guimarães (2005), Bilbao (2007), Coimbra (2009), Madrid (2011), Porto (2013), Cartagena (2015), Guimarães (2017), Seville (2019), Setúbal (2022), San Sebastián (2024), and Coimbra (2025).

The idea of creating a dedicated Iberian forum for tribology emerged in the late 1990s, when research groups from Spain and Portugal recognised the need for a regular meeting to strengthen collaboration and complement major international conferences. The aim of the conference is to promote scientific exchange within the tribology community across academia and industry and to support the development of a discipline with a strong impact on engineering, materials science, and industrial applications.

The conference will take place in the beautiful city of Gijón, the largest city in the Principality of Asturias, located on the north coast of Spain. The venue, the Universidad Laboral de Gijón, is the largest civil building in Spain in terms of surface area and a striking example of monumental architecture, providing a remarkable setting for a successful conference.

IBERTRIB 2027

The XIV Iberian Conference on Tribology will take place in Gijón (Spain) and is organized by the Lubrication and Surface Technology Research Group (LUSUTEC) of the University of Oviedo. This edition is particularly significant as the conference returns to the city that hosted the first IBERTRIB meeting in 2001.

IBERTRIB 2027 will provide an international forum to discuss the latest advances in fundamental research, technological innovation, and industrial applications in tribology. The event aims to encourage dialogue between academia and industry while addressing emerging challenges such as advanced materials, surface technologies, and sustainable engineering solutions.
